U10 played their first game of the KC Cup on field 8B at 10:15. The temperature was warming slowly but still really windy. One of the boys spotted a patch of blue sky peering through the overcast skies. The boys started well with a goal in the 2nd minute with Nick coming out of the back to pick up a nice cross from Trey. The Earthquakes tied the game in the 16th minute. Then 3 minutes later, Daniel put us up 2 to 1 to take us into halftime leading by one goal. 305 had 13 shots in the first half to Earthquakes 7 shots.
In the 2nd half, Riley put a direct kick into the back of the net in the 4th minute to put us up 3 to 1. Earthquakes scored in the 10th minute to make the score 3 to 2. In the 14th, Earthquakes tied the game at 3-3. It was eight minutes before the boys found the goal again when Nick once again came from the back to put a pass from Trey into the back of the net and give us the lead 4 – 3. A minute later, Riley scored to give us a 5-3 lead and the win. 305 had 6 shots in the 2nd half to ‘quakes 5.

There wasn’t much spring like you could say about Saturday morning. Temperatures in the low 30′s, wet, windy, but actually almost perfect footy weather for the first game of the KC Cup. And it was an 8:15 am start against Columbia United. the boys powered up and we were off. Hunter scored the first goal of the match in the 10th minute. Two minutes later Hunter put us up 2 to 0. Columbia United scored in the 20th minute to make it 2 to 1. With one minute left in the half, Hunter put in a tremendous direct kick to put us up 3 to 1 at halftime. 305 had 6 shots in the first half to United’s 5.
In the second half, we had plenty of opportunities, but nothing would fall. In the 9th minute, United scored and made the game 3 to 2. Finally in the 23rd minute we got our fourth goal of the game to make the final score 4 to 2. A good win to start the tournament.305 had 12 shots in the 2nd half to United’s 3 shots.

Another windy day. Winds out of the south and of course a field running south to north. Except at RayPec, field 7 runs downhill north to south. So an interesting mix. The boys were feeling good with the 1:00 start time and temperatures were in the low 80′s. We took the wind the first half going uphill and the boys wasted no time getting things going. Hunter got the ball outside wide and took a technically perfect shot that lasered past the goalie. One minute later, Zachary headed a goalie punt back up the field to Hunter and Hunter got a good first ouch and then blasted the ball past the goalie putting us up 2 to 0 in the first two minutes. In the 11th, Riley put us up 3 to 0. In the 17th minute, I moved Trenton Willis back to right back and asked him to take control of the next ball that came to him and take it up the field. RayPec kicked off, the attack came down Trenton’s side, he won it, took off, keeping possession all the way into the goal, the goalie stopped it and then Trenton won it back and finished on the goal line. Very nice. Spartans scored one to make it 4 to 1 at half time. 305 had 13 shots to Spartans 6 shots in the first half.
The wind had shifted to blowing more out of the southwest, so we were going downhill with the wind coming more across than up the field. Play was a little more open in the 2nd half and both teams were working hard and putting together some good possession. Alex scored in the 12th minute and then Spartans got one back to make the score 5 to 2. Lolo had a great shot at the end but the ref blew the whistle and the goal didn’t count. Final score ended up 5 to 2. 305 had 10 shots in the 2nd half to Spartans 5.

The wind had picked up considerably since the U11 game earlier in the day. A 4:50 start at LSSA field 7 had strong winds blowing out of the south on the south – north facing field. The boys got the wind the first half and it was game on. In the 2nd minute Riley had a strong kick on goal that came off the goalie and Nick came out of the back to smash it home. In the 5th minute, Riley took another shot from outside, this time putting it over the goalie into the back of the net. Fury got one back in the 7th against the run of play to make the score 2 to 1. A minute later, they were back in our goal and our goalie couldn’t keep a hold of it and the ball found its way across the line to tie things up. The boys responded and we were back in control but just couldn’t find the net or beat the keeper. In the 11th, Jesus had a great run and ended with a strong shot beating the keeper to put us up 3 to 2. Fury were able to get one more and we went into the half tied at 3 a piece. 305 had 14 shots to Fury’s 6 in the first half.
In the second half, Fury came out with the wind and quickly got a goal to go up 3 to 4. In the 9th minute, Fury made it 3 to 5. The boys dug in and started to win possession in the middle and a good shift from Max, Logan and Daniel up front saw us turn the game and start to get some chances against the strong wind. The last 10 minutes of the game, we were having good opportunities and in the 24th, Trey played through a great ball to Riley who slammed the ball past the goalie to put us within a goal at 4 to 5. The equalizer didn’t come before the ref blew the final whistle, but it was a great finish. 305 had 10 shots in the second half to Fury’s 12 shots.

It was a 9:30 start on RSC field 12, our earliest game of the season so far. We added a special energy “power up” to our warmup with some G1 pouches, apples, bananas and peanut butter dip. The wind was out of the south on the south-north facing field and we took the wind the first half.
Dylan started off the scoring in the 5th minute. Hunter followed with a direct kick outside the box in the 7th. Both teams had good possession but our boys were really working hard winning challenges and moving the ball around the pitch. Hunter scored again in the 11th to put us up 3 to 0. In the 18th, Hunter completed his hat trick. With three minutes to go in the half, Hunter had another direct kick that he put in the uppper corner of the goal to put us up 5 to 0 at halftime. In the first half, 305 had 17 shots to Spartans 10 shots.
In the second half, we were playing into the wind. At kickoff, Alex got the ball down the right and took it all the way to goal finishing with a great second effort shot near post on the keeper. The half was pretty open with both teams moving the ball well end to end. Spartans scored two to get themselves back in the game. Trenton finished our scoring with a super finish and the final score was 7 to 2. 305 had 12 shots in the 2nd half to Spartans 15.
