Our goal for the tournament was to at least be in contention to go to the final. The boys had done just that with their good win over Shawnee Elite. We were playing a strong BVSC side that we had met earlier in the season in the Tournament in the Woods. It was a blustery day with a strong wind blowing across the field and temperatures in the 50′s. Some how we were playing on a field with full size goals. The field ran down hill and was one of the worst pitch’s we had played on all season.
The boys were in great spirits and ready to go. Our captains chose to go uphill the first half. BVSC kicked off passed down the field and ran right by our defenders and put the ball into the back of the net. How many times have we given up the early goal this season? Definitely something to work on for the spring. This woke us up and we had some efforts, but BVSC were having the run of play. The boys were playing tough and started to find their rhythm.
BVSC were awarded a direct kick outside the box and the kick went high into the air and ended up in the far corner of the 24′ goal. The shot would have just gone over the goal on our normal goals. The boys kept working and created some good chances. We went in to the half only down 2 to 0.
In the second half, we were going down hill and immediately started creating chances. In the 4th minute Hunter sent a direct kick from midfield through for Brandon to run on and he finished his run with a well timed shot into the back of the net. We were definitely back into the game. BVSC put in their 4th on a corner and put us down 4 to 1, the boys once again picked things up and with a nice run of play, setup Hunter to pull us back 4 to 2 with 10 minutes to go in the game. We pushed up to try to get the third and created some good chances. BVSC found their 5th and put the game away 5 to 2.
The boys gave their all and lost to a good BVSC team. BVSC went on to lose to SSC Fury 2 to 1 in the final. We were always in the game and had we started better could have easily been 0 to 0 or even up 1 to 0 in the first half. Sometimes the breaks don’t go your way. The boys deserve lots of credit for fighting for 60 minutes and believing they could turn things around. Fall 2010 is very similar to Fall 2009. Lots of hard work, tremendous growth and strong competition in every match. Anybody remember spring 2010? I can’t wait to start training for spring 2011.
