It was the game that wasn’t supposed to be taking place in one of the last time slots of the Patriot Cup – 4:20pm on Field 8B. Sedalia Soccer 305 Spin U9 v KC Select Renaldo. But don’t tell OUR boys that – it was game on from the first whistle and Trenten Leary gave us the lead with a goal early in the first half. KC Select was pounding our goal, but Colby was doing what he had been doing all season, making saves. KC Select tied the game 1 to 1 and we went into half time tied with KC Select. The boys were working really hard and putting pressure on all over the field. Their defense and especially their goalie were tough to beat.
In the second half, it was a pretty even match. KC Select went ahead 2 to 1, but the boys did not let up. Riley scored to tie the game at 2 to 2 and we were back in it. What a game! With four minutes to go, it looked like neither team would break the deadlock. KC Select sent a goal kick out to midfield where Trenten Leary knocked it down and then quickly kicked the ball back at their goal. The shot was quality and bounced over the goalies head into the back of the net. 305 Spin 3 – KC Select 2. The boys were on top and played the final minutes as hard as the first minutes of the game. The Ref blew the whistle and U9 had won! Patriot Cup U9 division CHAMPIONS!! WOW – way to go boys. That was so amazing. So Thrilling and in the heat at the end of a very long weekend. I couldn’t be more proud. What an effort by everyone.

It was a 1:40pm start on 9A v Rampage on a very hot, LONG day. U9 making the final also changed our sub strategy a bit, so it was going to be the core U10 players carrying the load most of the game with our U9 U10 boys doing their part when called upon. We had restocked our ice/water/gatorade supplies and happily the tent followed us from the U9 game on field 8A to the U10 game on 9A. THANKS!!
It was game on right from the start. Tanner did some magic in the second minute, followed by a great run ending in a goal by Trenton Willis in the 4th. Rampage got a goal and we were at 2 to 1. Alex got a very important goal in the third to put us ahead 3 to 1. Rampage made it 3 to 2 with another goal. Tanner blasted home a goal in the 13th and Trenton Willis pushed the half time score to 5 to 3 with goal in the 17th minute. 305 had 23 shots in the first half to Rampage 8 shots.
In the second half, we started off quickly with Trenten Willis completing his hat trick in the first minute. We continued to control much of the possession, but the game slowed down as all the boys on both teams were feeling the heat. Hunter scored in the 11th to make it 7 to 3 and that was the end of the scoring for the half. 305 had 10 shots in the second half for a total of 33 for the game to Rampage’s 4 in the second half for 12 total.
WOW - what a run for Spring 2010. Undefeated in all competitions. KC Metro 1A U10 division Champions. KC Cup U10 division Champions. Patriot Cup U10 division Champions. The TREBLE!!! Congratulations to everyone. This is a TEAM.

U9 lucked out with a late Sunday morning start with a 12:20 game on field 8A. We were actually in the hunt with a remote possibility of winning our group. We would have to win and Liberty United would have to lose to the FHSC team we beat. Seemed like a long shot.
Riley started things off scoring in the 3rd minute, followed by Trenten in the 4th. Trenten scored again in the 10th to put us up 3 to 0. Legends scored 1 before half to make it 3 to 1 at half time. It was really hot and the top the parents put up for us on the sidelines really helped. I spent more time managing subs and hydration then watching the game. We were really mixing it up getting subs on and off and everyone was playing every where. The boys were having a blast and Riley scored again followed by goals from Colby Edgar, Logan Vannoy and Hayden Martin. Legends knocked in a couple more and the final score was 7 to 3.
The U10 final was on field 9A where the FHSC – Liberty game was finishing up. Much to our surprise, FHSC had beat Liberty 5 to 3. So we were IN THE FINAL!. Both U10 AND U9!! Luckily our camp was behind the 9A goal and all the U9 players and family had a perfect place to watch U10 play in their final. What a day it was turning out to be….

It was an early 8:20 am start on Sunday to face, Rampage. They had beat Qwest Rebellion 4 to 1 on Friday and then tied BVSC 2 to 2. So we were guaranteed a place in the final. BVSC needed to beat Qwest by 2 goals and have us beat Rampage by 3 goals to get in. While we wanted to win, we wanted to have a fun game with not much stress. Lots of subbing and players playing out of position.
In the first half, it was pretty obvious that Rampage wanted to win and were playing hard to make it happen. Trenton Willis put us ahead in the 14th and Rampage soon tied it 1 to 1. 305 had 17 shot in the first half to their 7 shots.
At halftime I told the boys the Ronaldo/Sir Alex story where at one of Ronaldo’s first practices at ManU, Sir Alex tried to show Ronaldo the benefits of passing to quickly move the ball around the field. My point was that it takes less effort to pass then to dribble the ball all the time. Point well taken. The boys moved the ball much better in the second half and we scored 4 goals to Rampage’s 2. Trenten Leary scored in the 4th, Hunter in the 11th, Riley in the 19th and Hunter again in the 20th. Final score, 5 to 3. And on the other field, BVSC only beat Qwest 2 to 1, so it was 305 v Rampage for the final. A rematch of the KC Cup.

We had a 4:00 start on field 9B against Qwest Rebellion for game 2. The “heat” was on and it was good to roll out of camp 305 and on to the field. We started out a little flat in the first half. Team work was good so that helped us work through the challenge of playing in the heat. Hunter scored twice in the first half and Trenton Willis banged home another while we held Qwest to one goal. At halftime we lead 3 to 1 with 10 shots to their 4.
In the second half the game opened up A LOT! Not sure where the energy came from other than knowing in 25 minutes their soccer day would be over. Tanner snuck one in in the third minute, then Trenten Leary scorched the net in the 9th and Riley added the sixth goal of the game in the 14th. Qwest got one more to make the final score 6 to 2. 305 had 20 shots in the second half for a total of 30 for the game. Qwest had 11 shots in the second half for a total of 15.

U10 boys kicked off the Patriot Cup on field 9A with a 10:40am start against BVSC Stars Nacional. This was the team that beat us in the semi-finals 4 to 3 this past fall. We needed to start with a win and the boys knew it would be a good match.
We had several opportunities in the first half, controlling a lot of the possession for the first 15 minutes. Hunter found the net in the 15th and put us up 1 to 0. BVSC bounced back and really put the pressure on for the remainder of the half, but could not get it past Ian. 305 out shot BVSC 14 to 4 in the first half.
We knew we needed an early goal and Hunter provided one in the first minute of the second half. The remainder of the game was a wild ride with both teams having some good chances. BVSC scored to make it 2 to 1, but the boys held on to win the crucial 3 points. 305 had 10 shots in the second half for a total of 24 and BVSC had 6 for a total of 10.
