April 17, U10 rematch Qwest Dymamo

    April 18th, 2010

u10 had a 9:30 game against Qwest Dynamo on a perfect spring day. Temps in the high 40′s and clear blue skies. A bit of a wind but not enough to make a difference. The boys were ready to play and we started strong. Hunter netted his first three minutes into the game followed by an excellent shot from Tanner five minutes later.

This was our third game of  the season and the boys were really working well as a team. Good pressure, lots of passing and we dominated possession. Ian wasn’t having much to do in goal and Zach Morrison and Trenton Willis were stopping any advances at the centerline. Hunter made it 3 to 0 then 4 to 0 in the 8th and 15 minute. Tanner added another shortly after. Trenton Willis playing in the middle had a weaving run down the field and through  their defense ending in a terrific finish for an unstoppable goal.  And then after they had a shot on Ian, Ian threw it out to Alex who had a one, two with Trenton, back to Trenton, then laid out wide to Tanner, who made a perfect cross over to Hunter and one touched into the back of the net. Sweet. Riley put one in with eight minutes to go and then Hunter added two more to put us 9 to 0 at half time.

The second half saw us start out where we had left off at half and Hunter added 3 more , Trenten Leary had a sweet left footed shot followed by another terrific finish by Dylan. Final score Sedalia 305 Spin – 14, Qwest Dynamo, 1.

    April 10 U10 v FFC Palermo

    April 11th, 2010

The second game of  the day saw us head back to RSC field 9B for a 1:15 kickoff to face FFC Palermo. U10 had not played for two weeks and the boys were eager to take the field. Palermo kicked off and we charged into their half, dispossessed them and threaded the ball through to Hunter who put the ball into the back of the net. It was  game on and the boys pressured throughout the half with Hunter scoring 3 more goals including a brilliant little Cruyff move past the goalie and Dylan Hayden ending the half with the goal of the year so far with a brilliant left-footed shot from the wing that ripped the upper 90. Somewhere in there we gave up a goal and we went in to half leading 5 goals to 1.

Palermo came out fighting the second half but we were able to get a quick goal to take us up 6 to 1. Our boys weren’t pressuring the ball as well as  the first half and Palermo started to find the net. The game was very physical and was  the first time we had seen any team slide tackle. Lots of tackles coming in and the pressure was intense end to end. Several back and forth goals. Hunter ended up netting 6 for the game. Alex Esquivel scored his first goal of the season and Trenten Willis scored a terrific goal taking the ball in the gut (getting branded in the process) and staying upright to finish the ball into the net. Final score – a thriller at 10 goals to 6. 5 goals each in the second half. A terrific game on a beautiful day at  the soccer park.

    April 10 U9 v Harambe

    April 11th, 2010

Saturday April 10, was the perfect spring soccer day we had been waiting for. We started the day on field 8 at WMSL for a 10:45 match with Harambe Barca Juniors. Harambe opend the scoring with a beautiful early goal with a long shot being carried in over Colby’s head. No one was stopping that shot. The boys picked their heads up and we are right back in it. Both teams had some good chances and Colby and Nick were shutting down the back, but 305 just could not get it past their keeper. Harambe scored a 2nd and we went in to half down 0 to 2.

We kicked off and had an excellent chance right on the kickoff, but after several attempts on the goal line, the ball squeaked out for a corner kick. The second half played out like that with several near misses including a ball that our guys thought was a goal, but the ball skidded down the goal line but never completely over it. Harambe had two more good goals and we ended up getting shut out. The boys are playing really well and worked hard the entire 50 minutes. But today, we were not buying any goals. Keep your head high, we are learning a lot and starting to put together some good soccer. Now we just need to work on our finishing.

    U9 vs United 4/3

    April 5th, 2010

At 10:45, we kicked off our second match of the day against United whom we had played to a 3 to 1 loss on our first game of the season. We had worked hard at practice on Thursday on manning up and not getting knocked off the ball. They are a big team and in the first game had ran over a us a few times.

We started the match with a changed linup featuring our newest players and everyone worked together well and it was enjoyable soccer to watch with both sides getting the ball up and down the field. United found the net first to go up 0 to 1, but it didn’t take us long to tie it up with a brilliant run from Trey Beerman that ended in him taking a massive shot  that looped over the goalies head. What a great goal from Trey. The half ended with us tied 1 to 1 and you had to feel good for the boys playing two good teams and going into half of both games even up.

In the second half, we started brightly, but it didn’t take long before it felt like the boys were playing with heavy legs. Nick Anders was having a great game at centerback and kept us in the game as they kept coming at us. United went up 1 to 2 and while we had a few more chances and for a while I was confident we would tie the game, we were definitely tiring and getting frustrated and they found the net for a third time to go on to win 1 to 3 – the same score as our first game with United.

So an excellent day overall with the boys showing real character, tied at half for both games and an impressive 2 to 0 lead over Parma early on. We looked like a completely different team against United and I was proud of how the boys didn’t get knocked off the ball this time around. Great work everybody!

    U9 vs FFC Parma 4/3 8:15am

    April 5th, 2010

It was an early start on a beautiful but brisk saturday morning. An 8:15am game is early for anybody. But the sun was shining brightly, the dew was heavy on the grass and the temperature was trying to break out of the 30′s. The boys had a good warmup and were ready to play a tough Parma team. We started the game with good pace and caught Parma on their heals. Not long after the start, Trenten Leary found the back of the net to put us up 1 to 0.

The half continued with good back and forth play with both teams having chances and our boys working hard to keep possession and attacking when dispossessed. Near the end of the half, we had a good series of passes with Trenten sending across a nice ball for Logan to put in to put us up 2 to 0. It was amazing, up to 2 to 0 over Parma and not much time left in the half. But I guess our boys were too excited and the panic had set in for Parma as they bounced  back with two quick goals to end the half tied 2 to 2.

The second half started where the second half had left off and both teams were scrapping in the middle of the field. Parma scored to make it 2 to 3. This was followed by a cracking shot from their forward to put them up 2 to 4. But the boys kept working hard and we were creating chances.  Colby from the left side got off a great shot to pull us  back to 3 to 4. We had a few chances to tie it up, but Parma finally put the game away with a goal to make it 3 to 5.

It was a great game for us and in only our second game of the season, we were starting to play like a team. To take a 2 to 0 lead against this very good Parma team really showed what the boys are capable of. We had a couple of near misses and were easily within reach of winning or at least tying this match.

(Thanks Rhonda for taking the pictures!)
