The boys had been bubbling all day about getting to play on the Wizard’ field at Community America Ballpark. We were set for a 5:00 matchup with Jefferson City Greece U10 boys. Our tailgate started early at 3:00 and it was great to have another weekend with the players and parents at another Wizards Game.
We played 8 v 8 going across the Wizard’s pitch with a playing time of 30 minutes. JC had the tallest U10 kid I think I have ever seen. But it didn’t matter. The game started and our boys went to work, Full-Wembley speed ahead. It was great fun and Hunter score two terrific goals and Dylan shut them out at the other end to give us the win, 2 to 0.
Then it was back to the tailgate with coach and HA Perez serving up some tailgate taco’s and carne asada. The Wizard’s game was a great one to end the season with a 2 to 2 that knocked DC United out of the playoffs. The game was followed by an autograph session with ALL the Wizard players and the boys enjoyed meeting the players and getting their autographs.

The U10 boys played at RSC 9a at noon. The wind had picked up a bit but the sun was shining and it was really a beautiful day. The game started with us taking it to the Legends, and we had several good opportunities as we hit everything but the back of the net. Pretty much the entire first half looked like we should be winning, but when the whistle blew, we were down 4 to 1 on Hunter’s lone goal. Credit to Tanner who hit a 25 yard free kick like a laser into the back of the net. But on the worst call we have seen this year, the Ref said it should have been an indirect even though neither ref had indicated such. The goal would have seen us tied at 2 to 2, so that was a tough one to take.
In the second half, we continued to dominate play and Alex scored a terrific goal to get us back into the game and then had another terrific strike that just missed. Hunter added two more to complete his hat trick and we ended up on the short side 4 to 6.

We arrived at the RSC fields at 8:30 am Saturday morning to take our u9 pictures. The fields were a beautiful frosty white shimmering in the clear morning sunshine. We were back to full strength with Trenten back in the lineup.
We gave up a goal two minutes into the game and then battled hard with some good end to end play and several opportunities that we just couldn’t finish. 7 minutes into the half, We had some good combo play with Trenten beating the keeper and scoring the equalizer. With 4 minutes to go in the half, Trenten found the net again to put us up 2 to 1. We were now domainating play and with less than a minute in the half, Riley scored putting us up 3 to 1 at half.
The sun was shining and the frost was gone and the boys were having fun. In the second half, Riley put us ahead early in the half 4 to 1, then LS scored making it close, 4 to 2. Trenten extended our lead with his third goal for his hat trick, 5 to 2. Lee’s Summit scored to try to get back in the game, 5 to 3, then Riley put the game away with his third goal, for a final score of 6 to 3.

Saturday evening saw us at Community America Ballpark for the PKSA night at the Wizards. We had a great turn out from our two teams and the tailgate was a blast. Thanks to Lori and everyone that helped put it together. And a special thanks to HA Perez for the tacos and chips and salsa.
At 6:00 the boys went into the stadium for a special meet and greet with KC Wizards Captain and US MNT player, Jimmy Conrad. Jimmy is a very special person that has contributed so much to soccer, the Wizards and to Kansas City. I was excited that the boys would get to be in the presence of such a special and well balanced professional athlete. An athlete that is so rare these days. A role model that we can easily have our kids aspire to.
Thanks, Jimmy!

It would be the last game of a long weekend. Sunny, in the 60′s, but really windy. The field at RayPec ran uphill south to north and the wind in the same direction. We were playing with one sub, but it was so good to see Trenten out of the hospital and on the sidelines to watch. These kids are facing a tough battle with all the viruses running rampant through the schools.
We won the toss (Hunter wins again) and we elected to defend the downhill goal with the wind to our backs. I asked the boys before the game to just go out and have fun. Get an early goal and just take it to ‘em. And they did. We intercepted the kick off, took the (flat) ball up the field and Riley put it in the back of the net. All in less than 30 seconds. Game on.
Our boys dominated possession and we were looking strong. Hunter raced through the defense and tucked the ball into the goal in the 5th minute to put us up 2 to 0. For the rest of the half we had plenty of chances, but just weren’t hitting the net. RayPec got a break away in the 22 minute and beat us on the touchline into the goal. Halftime score saw us up 2 to 1, though it felt like about 5 to 1.
Second half saw us heading downhill into the wind and the boys didn’t seem to care about the wind at all as they picked up where they had left off. Hunter got his brace with his goal in the 15th. And while RayPec made it close with 5 minutes to go scoring their second goal, the boys were completely dominating play.
This game was exactly what I needed. No coaching necessary. Just watch the boys play and have fun. Every player on the field contributed and was working hard and having fun. A terrific way to end the weekend.

This was looking like it would be the clash of the two undefeated U9 teams, but with our loss yesterday, we were playing for pride. I was concerned we would be tired after the hard work on Saturday and the first half definitely looked like we were running a little low on fuel. Harambe scored three unanswered goals in the 5th, 10th and 15th. Riley scored in the 23rd minute and seemed to get us back in the game. But we gave up another goal with just a minute to go in the half. Down 4 t 1 at half, we were in unchartered territory for this bunch.
But the boy pulled it together and started making chances right away. Riley scored 3 minutes into the 2nd half and we were looking like the better team with chances all over the field and beating Harambe to the ball. Unfortunately we had a lapse in the 7th minute and Harambe found the net.
In the 15th Riley got all of the ball just top of the box and sent a screamer past the goalie. This put the game back in sight at 5 to 3. We played well the rest of the game and had several opportunities, but their goalie had a terrfic match. The game ended with us on the losing end 5 to 3. The Harambe coach was full of compliments of our play and the spirit of the game. I would definitely agree and am proud that we came back out the 2nd half and won that half 2 to 1.
BTW – we have played Harambe twice and Riley has scored a hat trick both games.

Just like the U10 boys, U9 had been down for a week. Plus Trey had just got out of the hospital last Saturday and Trenten was just getting out today. A short squad, but plenty of spirit. LS had probably the biggest U9 players boy for boy that we have seen. Looked like we were playing U10. But it didn’t matter to the boys as they worked hard creating a few opportunities that just missed. Lee’s Summit opened the scoring with a really nice shot in the 8th minute. But the boys came right back, kicking off and going down into the box with Tucker equalizing in less then a minute. Pretty exciting.
In the 14th minute, LS went up 2 to 1. Then Colby scored on a nice run of play in the 18th to tie it up again 2 to 2. Play was end to end and LS scored with less than two minutes to go to make it 3 to 2 at halftime.
The second half saw both teams work some good opportunities. Our boys probably had more chances but LS went ahead 4 to 2 in the 9th minute. Riley found the net 3 minutes later to bring us back in at 4 to 3. We dominated play the final 5 or 6 minutes of the game including a corner kick where the ball just laid on the line but nobody could seem to get to it. The whistle blew and U9 had lost their first game of the season. A tough loss, but well played and good effort from everyone.

Finally back in League action after being out two weeks with no games thanks to the cancellation of the Sedalia tournament. But the boys were ready to play and immediately went to work. For the first 18 minutes of play we dominated with a flurry of opportunities and conceding few chances at the other end. However, Quest found the net first with 7 minutes to go in the half followed by another just seconds before the halftime whistle. Down 2 to 0 at halftime though we had dominated play and had most of the chances.
The boys came out strong in the 2nd half and once again dominated. 8 minutes in, Riley found the net and brought us back into the game. We moved the ball well and worked it around the field, but just couldn’t net the equalizer. With just a few minutes left, Quest put away the winner at 3 to 1. The boys played their hearts out and won on the field. Great effort.
