The u9 boys followed the u10 game with their match against Futura FC Roma. I wasn’t sure I could handle much more excitement after the U10 game, but it was another fun “hold onto your hat” game.

We started off well with an early goal from Trenten Leary. Then it was back and forth with both teams getting some good chances. Andrew Schreiner made some good saves and kept us in the game.  We were on top a half time 3 to 2.

Roma came out fast in the 2nd half and scored 2 goals to make it 4 to 3. Their 4th goal was a long range looper. Trey tied the game with a goal and then Riley put us up 5 to 4. Then, not to be outdone by Roma’s earlier long goal, Trenten fired a long range blast back at Roma to put us ahead 6 to 4. WOW. Riley added two more as we put the game out of reach 8 to 4. An excellent game against a good Futura side.

Sunday was another amazing, cool August day with both our games scheduled at RSC field 9B. Thanks to all the u9 team parents and players that came early to support the U10 team.

What can you say about this game – wow. It was Lee Summit’s second game and our first, and Lee Summit played with the max roster while we just had two subs. But our boys played their hearts out in a thriller with Dylan Hayden on our end and their goalie making save after save. It was end to end footy. I had told the boys before the game that the final score would be 8 to 6 and if it hadn’t been for some amazing saves by their goalie, there is no doubt in my mind that was the final score – us winning 8 to 6. We played that well and with those great saves ended up on the short side 5 to 2. Hunter Gilliam netted both goals. I don’t know how many shots and one on one’s we had, but their goalie saved some shots that were seemingly unstoppable.

The boys played 110% the entire game – clear to the last minute. While it was a tough loss – I have never seen a better game at this level. Everyone should be proud of this heroic effort.

It is a rare August afternoon when you can hang out in the Community American Ballpark and tailgate and hear mumblings that the “air is cold”…..IT WAS GREAT! The tailgate that is. the game was another 90 minutes of the Wizards not being able to put one in the net, though they outshot Real 17 to 5 and Hartmann had only 2 saves to Seitz’s 11. The Wizards have not scored since the 50 yard shot from Lopez against the Galaxy.

The U9 boys kicked their season off at the beautiful Independence Sports complex against the Independence Crush. It didn’t take the boys long, scoring a goal in the first minute of play and 4 goals in the first six minutes. The team mantra of Pressure, Pace and Possession put the crush on their heels and the wheels of the U9 boys kept turning. It was an amazing day weather wise – only 72 degrees and a fun way to get the season rolling.

Trey Beerman kicked off the scoring with Trenten scoring 3 in the first half and one more in the 2nd half. Tucker got one goal in each half for his first goals for the team and Bryan put in 4 in the second half with his first team appearance. Nick and Riley both scored in the second half.

We are working with the Leary’s to provide volunteer Ballboys for the home Smith Cotton boys soccer games. Here is the schedule. Note on the opener – 9/10 – we will have practice earlier that evening as normally scheduled since the Raytown tourney is that weekend. Also note – as of now, only the U10 boys are set to play that weekend. We will be able to pull some players from the U9 squad to have enough players.

The Ray Pec coach has had to cancel our U10 soccer game for August 29th. He has several players going to be out of town. We are going to reschedule for later in the season. The U9 team will still be playing at Independence on Saturday and both teams are still on for their games on Sunday.

We have tickets available (thanks Rhonda and Jim!) for the August 29 KC Wizards vs Real Salt Lake game. We will be heading over to Community America Ballpark after the last game on Saturday and probably have the Tailgate going by 4:00pm. The game is at 7:30pm.

August 25th was the first annual Pool Party Practice. We had a great practice in the park from 5:30 to 6:15, then headed over to the Libery Pool for a party for the players and their families. Needless to say, 7:30 came around too soon as everyone was having a blast.
